Tough job: Interview with an All My Children soap actor

with 6 comments

People give actors a hard time.

“It’s not real work.”

“Poor you, pretending all day, boo hoo.”

“Hey a-hole, get your junk off my wife.” (That might only happen to a couple of us.)

Acting is a profession and a craft. It requires dedication, persistence, and the ability to hear the word “no” a thousand times without letting it get under the skin. It’s a sweet gig that most people would kill for.

Ron Rogell is an actor. Besides a recurring role on All My Children his resume includes movies like August Rush and TV spots on Ugly Betty, Law & Order: SVU and Penn and Teller’s: B.S. Look, he even has an IMDB page.

I asked Ron about his job. This is me asking along with him answering. He told me it’s what they call an “interview” in the biz.

How did you fall into acting?

I didn’t fall, I tripped. I always wanted to be an actor as long as I can remember. But I didn’t start to seriously pursue it until a few years ago. I have been VERY lucky in a world that is very competitive. Especially starting this late in life.

Who is the most famous you’ve ever worked with?

I am the most famous! what…you never heard of me? damn. Ummm…I have worked with Susan Serandon on ENCHANTED (along with Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams), I worked with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Kerri Russell in AUGUST RUSH. America Ferrara, Eric Mabius and Vanessa Williams on UGLY BETTY and of course Susan Lucci and everyone on ALL MY CHILDREN. Do you think I dropped enough names?

Not yet. Biggest jackass? If you don’t give a real name I’ll spit on my monitor in protest.

I’ve been VERY lucky. I haven’t come across any huge jackasses in the professional world. On the indie world, though…DAAAAAAAAAMN! some of these people think they are better and more talented than they actually are!

Just realized spitting on my monitor only spites me so I’ll let it slide. Ever think of giving up that crap job and doing something exciting like accounting?

I’m actually doing this acting thing until a good waitering job comes along.

What’s the goal? Movie? Sitcom? Infomercial?

I’ve done all three. and I have a blast whatever I do. Even theatre. My goal is to rule the world…like Brad Pitt

Ever show a chick your IMDB page to get her horny?

Stupid question…of COURSE!!! Did it work???? OF COURSE!!!

Stupidest line you’ve ever had to say.

Too many to choose from…let’s see…how about ALL MY LINES from a production of MESHUGGAH-NUNS where I played…get ready…Captain Dick Biggerstaff! I kid you not!

Got advice for anyone looking to give acting a shot.

Stay in school! Get a real job!

Want me to sign a head shot for you? I’ve got plenty.

I would love one! Wanna trade? I got a shitload, too!

Got a tough job you want to discuss? Email me here and we’ll talk about it over crumb cake.
