Potential employers checking credit scores (Not purchases. Calm down)

How is your credit score? Probably not the best it’s ever been with a bad economy but so long as it’s above a 600 you should be fine. Mine? Well it’s higher than my SAT’s. None of your business. Just take my current and past employment opportunities and connect the dots. It’s a Hall of Fame batting average though.
If your credit is bad it may cost you a job. Employers are checking.
The recession has made this a buyer’s market when it comes to hiring, which may be leading more companies to use credit reports as screening criteria, said John Ulzheimer, president of consumer education at Credit.com. Retailers and financial service companies in particular pay close attention to a person’s credit history because their jobs often involve employees handling large amounts of money, said Shank, who serves on the board of directors of a bank.
Understandable if the person is going for a job where money is involved but how does low wages and high cost of living make someone a bad potential employee? Will the readout say “well he/she had a ton of credit card debt because they had to pay out of pocket for a root canal and their piece of shit car decided to take a nap on the highway.”
Unfair.
The credit check doesn’t piss me off as much as the “buyer’s market in hiring” comment.
Here is a little advice to those in hiring positions; if you stop being so god damn picky about employees maybe we can finally put an end to this mini-economic clusterfunk. I realize you want the best possible person but taking months and months to fill a gig isn’t helping you, isn’t helping applicants looking to get off unemployment bennies, isn’t helping states shelling out those bennies and it sure isn’t helping the economy.
